Part of the UNESCO heritage site
The Panama is handmade in Ecuador from toquilla straw which comes from a local palm species. In 2012, Unesco listed the traditional weaving of Panama on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Protects from the sun
At the very beginning, the main function of the panama was to protect people from the sun, then it became a fashionable hat (which still protects from the sun).
